We went for a plant tour (and free sampling afterwards)
They managed to preserve some of the original brewery (established 1889) and build up around it.
I'd like to have this on my wall some day...
All in all the tour was what I expected. High level discussion of how to brew beer and how to bottle it.
I was interested in the fact Asahi develops all of it's yeast in house. The "Super Dry" aspect of their beer is because they bio-engineered a yeast to ferment a certain way. Additionally, they use different strains for their equivalent of malt liquor beer (Asahi Clear is quite good). Interesting stuff, but they didn't really get into that on the tour - I had to ask at the end during a one on one conversation.
If you have a couple hours to kill, I can't say I don't recommend a trip to the brewery...
